School Days

At the Illinois Arts Council's annual Artists in Residence Showcase, there's a living, breathing buffet of art.

Every year, hundreds of artists pull out all the stops as they vie for residencies in schools across the state. Mixing art and education, these artists perform before crowds of teachers and school officials, hoping to land a one to six-month stint.

Through these residencies, educators expand children's artistic knowledge while also helping kids learn the more traditional subjects or reading, writing and 'rithmetic in novel ways.
