Bravo, Lyric!

For more than 50 years, Lyric Opera of Chicago has been bringing the world's greatest singers to the Windy City.

Since setting up shop in 1954 at the monumental Civic Opera House in downtown Chicago, Lyric Opera has helped maintain the city's musical traditions while propelling it into the next century.

Lyric's stunning productions of classic and contemporary operas have attracted many international stars. Maria Callas, José Carreras, Placido Domingo, Birgit Nilsson and Samuel Ramey are just a handful of the artists who have graced its stage.

But this first-class company doesn't rest on its laurels. It has launched world premieres and kept busy creating the classics of tomorrow. And through its Center for American Artists, a world-renowned artist-development program, Lyric Opera has catapulted singers to major careers at the world's leading opera houses.
