Music al fresco
While listening to a world-class symphony orchestra, feel free to stroll amongst the trees, open a bottle of wine and settle
down on the grass with your picnic basket.
That's what Chicagoans have done for decades at Ravinia, the 36-acre venue in Highland Park that has played host to the Chicago
Symphony Orchestra every summer since 1936.
Built in 1904 as an amusement park to build up a clientele for the Chicago-Milwaukee rail line, the park quickly became a
summertime getaway for music lovers. Its outdoor summer music festival, the country's oldest, continues to draw audiences
to this bucolic site by road and rail every year.
