Rockford Renaissance

Illinois' second largest city takes a back seat to none when it comes to the arts.

Just a two hour drive from Chicago, Rockford has kept its thriving arts scene alive. It's due in part to the work of independent and creative artists who aren't daunted by the presence of such a cultural heavyweight nearby.

And during two annual festivals called ArtScene, the city's artists have a chance to shine. Organized in conjunction with the Rockford Area Arts Council, the festivals highlight the work of Rockford's creative community. Their stunning projects are shown in galleries as well as those places one wouldn't always expect to see art.
