Southern Sound
Even if you don't understand the words, the jovial music of Sones de Mexico Ensemble is enough to pick up your spirits.
This sextet specializing in son, a rich and lively Mexican musical traditional form, was founded in the mid-1990s by talented
multi-instrumentalists. In just a few years it established itself as one of the premier Mexican Folk music groups in Chicago,
playing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as well as in local schools.
Like their compatriots at the Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago, the musicians of Sones de Mexico send audiences
on a journey through time and over distance. Through its vast repertoire of instruments and songs styles, the band shows listeners
the roots of Mexico's mestizo culture in Native American, Spanish, and African music.
