Learning Triangle

The Learning Triangle is demonstrated in all of our Early Learning workshops and seminars.  This simple three-step process can be easily and playfully employed at home or in an educational setting.


Use the magic of WTTW Kids to spark your child's sense of curiosity and love of learning.


Make connections between what you view and what you read.


Take the educational ideas introduced in WTTW Kids programs and turn them into concrete, hands-on experiences for children. This includes crafts, songs, movement, and many other forms of play.

Why use the Learning Triangle?

  • Children learn through repetition.  When using the Learning Triangle, you repeat the same concept three times in three different ways.

  • Every child learns best when ideas are presented in a way that he or she understands.  By combining the activities of view, read and do the Learning Triangle can introduce a new concept to all types of learners.

Theme: Emotions
Age group: Pre-K, K

Children learn about emotions from the people around them.  To deal with their own emotions appropriately, they need to know what it is they are feeling first.  This Learning Triangle helps your child identify emotions and learn some skills for coping with their own emotions.

In this episode Max gets mad and releases a fury from it's cage.   As Max get more angry the fury grows.  As Max learns to control his emotion, the fury shrinks until his dragon friends help him contain it once more.

  • As you watch this episode together, ask your child to explain what is happening.
  • After watching, ask your child to tell you what Max was feeling and what he did to change the way he was feeling.

In this beautifully illustrated book children will experience descriptions of a variety of emotions, basic ones like happy, sad, mad and complex ones like jealousy and disappointment.  Through the use of simple child experiences and color the author helps us understand each emotion.

  • As you read this book together, talk about the pictures, point out interesting details and let your child guess which emotion is being depicted.
  • Ask your child if they have ever felt that way and to describe the feeling.
  • After reading, talk about emotions and how we can deal with them.

You will need a hand mirror for this activity.

Take turns with your child looking into the mirror and making the appropriate face for the appropriate emotion. You may want to make it a guessing game.

  • While playing, help your child understand the appropriate ways of displaying and resolving emotions.

It’s that simple!
