Independent Film and Video Links

P.O.V. is public television's annual showcase for independent non-fiction films. The site also serves as a forum for discussion of the often controversial points of view expressed in the films. You can also read, see or hear interviews with the filmmakers.

Independent Film Channel
IFC schedule plus a wealth of valuable links and information for makers and lovers of independent film.
Wide selection of complete short films to watch on your computer – short drama, comedy, animation and experimental films, though no documentaries.

Chicago Resources and Organizations
A hot resource for filmlovers and filmmakers alike to get the latest information on local films, productions, festivals, shows and much more.

Chicago Filmmakers
They've been around for years, teaching classes, showing local and national films (great place to see avant-garde work, old and new) and sponsoring the Chicago Lesbian and Gay International Film Festival.

Street Level Youth Media
Excellent organization which works with Chicago youth in video and new media. Very cool site – many pages were created by youth. Their mission statement: "Street-Level Youth Media educates Chicago's inner-city youth in media arts and emerging technologies for use in self-expression, communication and social change. Street-Level's programs build self-esteem and critical thinking skills for urban youth who have been historically neglected by policy makers and mass media. Using video production, computer art and the Internet, Street-Level's young people address community issues, access advanced communication technology and gain inclusion in our information-based society."

Video Data Bank
Since 1976, The Video Data Bank has been a leading resource in the United States for videotapes by and about contemporary artists. The VDB collections feature innovative video work made by artists from an aesthetic, political or personal point of view. Cool site. Some Quicktime clips.

Prime Shorts
