Historic Neighborhoods

In January of 1966 Martin Luther King, Junior moved his family from Atlanta, Georgia to Lawndale, where they took up residence in a dingy apartment. King’s plan was to highlight living conditions in urban slums, as part of a campaign called the Chicago Freedom Movement. Learn more about Lawndale’s history and other Chicago neighborhoods.
