The School Project is a six part documentary series of ten minute segments that examines the interrelated issues that affect Chicago Public schools and helps to define terms and dispel misinformation about the context of public education.

Join us for a special screening of the fifth part of the series, “UnChartered Territory - Charter Schools: For Better or Worse."  Over the past few years charter schools have proliferated across Chicago and the nation.  But surprisingly few people know exactly what a charter school is and where the concept came from.  This segment explores the unlikely history of charters and offers the insights of proponents and critics of the charter movement.

Following the 10-minute documentary segment, WTTW’s, Elizabeth Brackett will moderate a panel discussion with Dr. Carlos Azcoitia, CPS Board of Education, Stacey Davis Gates, Chicago Teachers Union, Michael Milkie, Noble Network of Charter Schools, and Sara Karp, Catalyst Chicago.

This screening and discussion is presented by WTTW, The School Project and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.  This event is free and open to the public.  Please RSVP at http://chartersbetterorworse.eventbrite.com.
