As part of the American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen! Initiative to raise awareness of the obstacles some students may face in achieving a high school diploma, WTTW is joining the conversation led by Catalyst Chicago in partnership with the Chicago Public Library to discuss how to attract and keep good teachers.

Keynote speaker Susan Moore Johnson, a professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will discuss how strong teachers are the most important in-school factor in students success. A former high school teacher and administrator, Johnson also directs the Project on the Next Generation of Teachers, which examines how best to recruit, develop, and retain a strong teaching force. Her studies have included the effects of collective bargaining on schools, the priorities of local teacher union leaders, teacher evaluation, and the use of incentive pay plans for teachers.

This is the third and final Critical Conversation forum celebrating Catalyst’s 25th anniversary year of award-winning, in-depth reporting on education in Chicago. This event is one of 3 town hall forums aimed at getting more people involved in an informed dialogue about what matters most for our city’s students and their families. Learn more about the publication at "Education: Then, Now, Next. Celebrating 25 years of Catalyst Chicago."

This is a free event.

WTTW’s American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen! initiative is made possible through a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
