WTTW, in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events presents a FREE screening and Discussion of two films produced with young adult media makers of Free Spirit PRO, a social enterprise of Free Spirit Media, in collaboration with Leadership Greater Chicago and the Peace Exchange.

Nia & Kim- Nia is a high school senior only months away from graduation. A bright student, she dreams of attending college and having a successful career. Nia’s mother, Kim, a teacher at an alternative school and single mom, could not be more proud of her daughter. A few months ago, they were evicted from their Section 8 housing and are currently homeless. Nia and Kim is a short documentary portrait of a mother and daughter facing hard times, but persevering to overcome the obstacles in their way.

Ubuntu: The Peace Exchange in South Africa- "I am what I am, because of who we all are." As part of the Peace Exchange leadership program, Peace Builders from Chicago traveled to South Africa in the summer of 2016, 22 years after the end of apartheid. The six young Chicagoans were welcomed by the Johannesburg Genocide & Holocaust Centre, explored solutions to inadequate housing with Start Living Green, lead an art therapy project for children with Lefika La Phodiso, and facilitated youth peace circles with Imagine Scholar.
