Ira Couch owned one of Chicago’s earliest and most famous hotels, the Tremont House. The fashionable hotel was located on Couch Place, a tiny Loop street that still can be found between Lake and Randolph streets. It burned down and was rebuilt twice.

The Couch family mausoleum sits in Lincoln Park, just behind the Chicago History Museum. The park was once a cemetery, and speculation is that the mausoleum was either too big or too expensive to relocate.
