Gas Works Park - A Closer Look

With Gas Works Park, designer Richard Haag showed that a clean slate isn’t as interesting as a dirty one.

Selective PreservationHaag edited the number of structures to remain on site, choosing to save this collection of a “mother” and her “babies.” Soil RemediationTo address the issue of toxic sludge, Haag looked to new technology: bioremediation. Introducing oxygen and organic matter into the soil activated the soil’s microbiome to perform its own cleanup, and much of the dirt could be salvaged, rather than requiring removal from the site.
