Her Favorite Things
Margaret Carlson might just be Julie Andrews' doppelganger.
Often compared to the famed singer,
Carlson often describes her own musical upbringing as a scene right out of
The Sound of Music, with her father regularly singing songs at the piano as family and guests joined in.
In her teens she kept up the von Trapp-like musical wanderings, but with a contemporary twist: from her home base in Minnesota
the singer set out to tour the country with her band, playing covers of Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Steely Dan and Heart.
After a break from music, Carlson returned with a passion for jazz. In 1996 she released
Once in a Blue Moon, a collaboration with late Chicago jazz pianist
Frank Mantooth. Carlson recently received a Grammy nomination for her second CD, "This Christmas...my favorite things."
