Down on the Farm

Photographer John Francis Ficara chronicles the plight of black family farmers.

Once a way of life and source of pride for many, the independent black farm is quickly vanishing. That is the story behind Distant Echoes Black Farmers in America, a travelling photography exhibition on display at Chicagos DuSable Museum of African American History. The exhibition features the work of photographer John Ficara. Ficara developed his eye as a photojournalist with Newsweek magazine, where he spent 24 years covering the White House and travelling the globe.
