Living History
Sometimes the best way to learn something is by doing it. Even if that something is history.
Students from Chicago's
Hawthorne Scholastic Academy and
Agassiz Elementary School had a chance to relive history. After researching World War II in the classroom, students put their knowledge on stage with
a little help from David Kersnar of the
Lookingglass Theatre Company.
It's part of an effort to bring the arts to the classroom and show how arts can be used to teach traditional subjects. Mixing
music, drama and the visual arts, students took an in-depth journey into the past.
Because who wants to read about the military draft in the 1940s when you can sing about it in the "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"?
