Society of the Spectacle

Chicago's Redmoon Theatre enjoy making a spectacle of themselves. And the pageantry, puppetry and exaggerated scale of their theatrical pieces have won them national acclaim.

Founded in 1989 in Logan Square, the company has used theatre to create "places of public celebration" that unite spectators from all walks of life. Staging performances in rather unorthodox places – one play took place on the water of the Jackson Park Lagoon - Redmoon Theatre enthralls audiences with stunning visuals.

And sometimes Redmoon actors aren't satisfied with staying on stage. Through street performances and parades the company brings their spectacle to new audiences, breaking down the barrier between participant and spectator. All images courtesy Redmoon Theatre.
