Spirits That Soar
As the hometown of Henry Darger and Lee Godie, Chicago is no stranger to outsider art. With the 2002 "Spirits that Soar" show
at the Harold Washington library, the city had another chance to see the work of non-professional artists.
The exhibition was put on by the
Little City Foundation, a Palatine-based organization that provides services to people with mental retardation and facing other developmental challenges,
and Esperanza Community Services. Esperanza regularly hosts outsider art shows, which focus on the works of artists who have
not received professional or academic training.
