Over the elevators at the Marquette Building, Edward Kemeys’ relief sculptures honor important figures in early area history, including not only European explorers but also Native American leaders like Keokuk, Blackhawk, and Chicagou, shown here.

Kemeys is also known for his iconic bronze lions that stand guard at the Art Institute of Chicago.
