In partnership with the Union League Club Authors Group, WTTW|WFMT invites its members to a special luncheon featuring Neil Shubin. He is host of Chicago Tonight’s “Ask Neil” segments in which he answers viewers’ questions about science; the author of the best-selling Your Inner Fish; and the Robert Bensley Distinguished Service Professor and Associate Dean of Biological Sciences at University of Chicago. Shubin will speak about his most recent book, The Universe Within: Discovering the Common History of Rocks, Planets, and People.

In this book, Shubin takes an expansive approach to the question of why we look the way we do. Starting with fossils, he turns his gaze skyward, showing us how the entirety of the universe’s fourteen-billion-year history can be seen in our bodies. As he moves from our very molecular composition (a result of stellar events at the origin of our solar system) through the workings of our eyes, Shubin makes clear how the evolution of the cosmos has profoundly marked our own bodies. Join us for an exciting and thought-provoking afternoon exploring how our world has shaped us.

The cost of a reservation at the event is $40 and includes lunch and the presentation. Books will be available for purchase. Valet and self-parking are available. Business attire is required.

Space is limited. Please register for the event with your credit card by Tuesday, November 5.
