Join us at Kennedy-King College for a screening and discussion of the new WTTW Digital multiplatform initiative FIRSTHAND. This event will explore community-based solutions to gun violence.

When the news media cove Chicago's gun violence, they often look to the mayor and the police chief for solutions. But the new WTTW Digital series Firsthand: Gun Violence shows what the citizens of this city are doing right now to fight for peace in their own communities. Come for a behind-the-scenes look at this new 15-episode digital series, and meet the people who are working on the front lines of violence prevention in Englewood and Auburn Gresham.

Following the screening, producer and director Dan Protess will talk with one or more of the film's subjects, and others.

FIRSTHAND: Gun Violence will launch today at, where in addition to the digital series, audiences will find six reported stories produced in partnership with The Trace, a nonprofit news organization covering guns in America; five expert “Talks” proposing community solutions; and a discussion guide. Also, to extend the reach of the project into Chicago neighborhoods, WTTW will present additional community screenings and discussions with experts and policymakers.

WTTW is proud to partner with The Heartland Alliance, the coordinating agency and employer of record for READI Chicago, and Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P), convened by Metropolitan Family Services.

FIRSTHAND: GUN VIOLENCE is presented, in part, by The Grainger Foundation, Allstate Insurance Company, and The Chicago Community Trust. Major support is also provided by Ann and Rich Carr, Lew Collens, Denny and Sandy Cummings, Jim and Kay Mabie, the Marc and Jeanne Malnati Family Foundation, Sonia T. Marschak, and Rande and Cary McMillan. All supporters listed are as of October 4, 2019.

Please RSVP below. There will be no physical tickets to this event. Your name and number of seats reserved will be on a door list when you arrive. * fields are required.
