WTTW is partnering with the Chicago Public Library, Beverly Branch, to present two brief documentaries from the POV Shorts series. In Mr. Smith’s Peach Seeds, meet Roger Smith, a retired Tennessee meter reader and cattle rancher. One day in 1968 during a break from work, Roger ate a peach and when he was finished, took out a pocketknife and carved the peach seed into a tiny pig. Forty-three years later, Smith has carved hundreds of peach seeds into hummingbirds, stingrays, gospel choirs, villages, even a baseball stadium with more than a hundred figures. "Given enough time," he says, "I don't think there is anything you can't make out of a peach seed."

Also on the bill: Earthrise, which tells the story of the first image captured of the Earth from space in 1968. Told solely by the Apollo 8 astronauts, the film recounts their experiences and explores the beauty, awe, and grandeur of the Earth against the blackness of space.
