WTTW News invites you to its monthly Latino Voices: A WTTW News Community Conversation, a virtual event on Monday, May 23 at 8:00 pm.

Summer is around the corner for most Chicago Public School students. Organizations across Chicago are preparing for youth programming and academic and employment opportunities for students amidst the challenge of summer violence in Chicago.

According to UChicago Urban Labs, there are about twice as many shootings on days with a temperature of more than 85 degrees than there are on days with a reading of less than 50 degrees. Meanwhile, investment in communities with high crime has proven effective in helping combat violence through earned income opportunities and development skills.

May’s Latino Voices: Community Conversation will discuss local investments in summer youth programs across the city, while also focusing on communities demanding more resources and investment to help combat violence in their area.

WTTW News on-air reporter Joanna Hernandez will moderate this live virtual conversation.

Support for CHICAGO TONIGHT: LATINO VOICES is provided by Allstate and The Chicago Community Trust. Additional support is provided by The Abe and Ida Cooper Foundation, The Field Foundation of Illinois, Lloyd A. Fry Foundation, Julian Grace Foundation and Judy and John McCarter.
