Wild Hope: A WTTW Screening and Community Conversation

Join WTTW on Wednesday, October 11 at 5:30 pm at the Garfield Park Conservatory for an in-person kick off of the series Wild Hope, a collection of short films highlighting the intrepid changemakers who are working to restore and protect our planet.

Each half-hour episode inspires audiences with stories of bold interventions, unexpected alliances, and nature’s resilience. This event will feature episode 6, Coffee for Water: Decades of war and unsustainable agriculture have stripped almost half the trees from the rainforest atop Mozambique’s Mount Gorongosa. The devastation threatens the watershed that sustains life in nearby communities and in Gorongosa National Park. Park experts and local farmers are uniting to plant a new shade-loving cash crop – coffee – that will help restore the forest and ensure a more prosperous future for humans and wildlife alike.

WTTW will moderate a lively conversation featuring Trinity Pierce, Certified Arborist at The Morton Arboretum and Stewardship Manager of Chicago Region Trees Initiative; Ed Duman, Co-Founder and President Oromo Cafe and Oromo Cafe Franchising Inc; Marcin Matelski, head beekeeper at Garfield Park Conservatory; and Jayveon Edmond, teen beekeeper and teen leader of Garfield Park Conservatory’s Urban Roots Program. Learn about urban forestry, local ethical and sustainable coffee options, and steps you can take to become a changemaker. Watch Wild Hope on Saturdays at 9:30 am beginning October 7.
