There’s a huge amount of worthwhile TV out there nowadays, so it can be hard to choose what to watch. But who better to recommend shows than the person who programs them? Lisa Tipton, WTTW’s Head of Programming and Pledge, constructs the WTTW schedule by searching through offerings from many different sources which include the national PBS network, the BBC, and independent filmmakers to put together a varied and engaging broadcast schedule. Each month, she’ll recommend a few shows that she thinks you should watch.

Shakespeare & Hathaway — Private Investigators

Saturdays beginning June 13 at 8:00 pm

Shakespeare & Hathaway Private Investigators

The personable former hairdresser Lu Shakespeare teams up with the bumptious private inspector for a third season of solving mysteries in Stratford-upon-Avon. Old fans will be delighted by more humorous detective stories, and, if you haven't seen the series yet, now is a great time to be delighted by it!

"I believe in censorship. I made a fortune out of it," Mae West once said. The bold actress pushed boundaries and confronted conventional mores to become a successful, and impressively independent, star in the 1930s, and remains a brazen legend to this day.

Prehistoric Road Trip

Wednesdays beginning June 17 at 9:00 pm

We're so excited about this series at WTTW, both because we co-produced it and because it features the Field Museum's Chief Curiosity Correspondent and YouTube star Emily Graslie! Plus, doesn't an epic journey through hundreds of millions of years of history, exploring fossils and the incredible creatures that left them throughout America's West, sound awesome?

Don't miss even more dinosaur, mammal, and paleontology stories and videos at the website, wttw.com/prehistoricroadtrip, plus a look behind the scenes of both the shows and the work of paleontologists, paleo-artists, and more!

Downton Abbey

Marathon begins Sunday, June 21 at 9:00 pm on WTTW Prime

We all love Downton Abbey, which is why I love programming marathons of it when I get the chance: it's always a joy to tune in and re-watch the series in whole or in chunks, or even see it for the first time!
