Apparently we can look forward to another stunning revelation from the Dowager Countess (Dame Maggie Smith) in the upcoming 'Downton Abbey: A New Era'

There was great excitement this past weekend for British drama fans as the first extended trailer for Downton Abbey: A New Era, a sequel to the previous feature film, arrived in theatres.

For those who have been shipwrecked on a desert island or living in a cave, Downton Abbey aired for six wildly successful seasons on public television, and tells the dramatic story of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants at a picturesque Yorkshire estate, following their turbulent journey from the sinking of the Titanic in April 1912 through World War I and the first half of the Roaring ’20s. A well-received feature film titled, predictably, Downton Abbey, hit theatres two years ago, and involved an eventful visit to the Abbey from the King and Queen of England and their troublesome entourage.

The eagerly anticipated Downton Abbey: A New Era will premiere on March 18, 2022 and apparently we can look forward to a lavish destination wedding, yet another stunning revelation from the Dowager Countess (Dame Maggie Smith) about her romantic past, a ride on a speeding yacht, a mysterious platinum blonde woman striding into the Abbey, and more tantalizing developments. Watch the trailer.

It appears that series creator Julian Fellowes hasn’t run out of ideas yet. Will there be more films? Only time—and box office receipts—can tell!
