Dramas and Mysteries Coming Up on WTTW
Daniel Hautzinger
April 4, 2022
Spring is here, which means new shows and new seasons. With the weather taking its time to warm up, it's nice to have something to look forward, through the summer and even into the fall.
Ridley Road
Sundays at 8:00 pm beginning May 1
This adaptation of a novel by Jo Bloom follows a young Jewish woman who goes undercover within a neo-Nazi group in London during the 1960s, with historical resonance for today.
Hotel Portofino
Sundays at 7:00 pm beginning June 19
Hotel Portofino is another historical drama, this time set on the sun-soaked Italian Riviera during the 1920s. The daughter of a wealthy British industrialist moves there to set up a hotel, leading to some comedic moments—but the show also features a mystery.
Endeavour Season 8
Sundays at 8:00 pm beginning June 19
We finally have an airdate for the next season of Endeavour! Like season 7, which aired in August of 2020 (catch up with our recaps), this season will be three episodes. It takes place in 1971, and Morse is in a dark place once again, following the death of a lover.
Grantchester Season 7
Sundays at 8:00 pm beginning July 10
Endeavour will be followed by the return of another popular mystery, when Grantchester airs its seventh season. (Catch up on previous seasons with our recaps.) This season picks up in 1959, and will most likely deal with Geordie's attempts to win Cathy back in the wake of finally accepting the toll fighting in the war took on him. Tom Brittney, who plays Will, directed an episode.
COBRA Season 2
Sundays at 9:00 pm beginning July 10
Poor Robert Sutherland. He has already weathered one national disaster as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, as well as the attendant political battles, and now he will once again have to call a COBRA—a special disaster team. This time the crisis is a cyber war, and some of the same team is ready to address it. Catch up on season 1 with our recaps.
WTTW Passport members can stream some of season 2 now.
Guilt Season 2
August
We knew more Guilt was coming, and that it would probably focus on Max's attempts at redemption. (Catch up on season 1 with our recaps.) Now we know it will be airing near the end of the summer, as a season of great dramas and mysteries wraps up.
Annika
Fall
And then we're into the fall. Annika is a new series following a Marine Homicide Unit in Glasgow as it investigates crimes in Scotland's waterways—and breaks the fourth wall to talk directly to us, the audience. While we have some time before Annika reaches broadcast on WTTW, Passport members will be able to stream it beginning April 17.
