The winner of 'America's Test Kitchen: The Next Generation' will become the show's newest on-screen talent

America's Test Kitchen will be adding a new cast member—and they'll be chosen in the public sphere via a new competition series called America's Test Kitchen: The Next Generation. Ten contestants chosen from more than 700 applicants will undertake culinary challenges before current America's Test Kitchen cast members in order to win the competition and become the newest cast member on the long-running cooking show, to debut in season 24 of America's Test Kitchen on WTTW and other public television stations in January of 2024.

America's Test Kitchen: The Next Generation will air in early 2023 on Amazon's free streaming service Freevee, formerly known as IMDb TV.

Not only will the contestants have to prove their cooking skills, as in many other culinary competition shows; America's Test Kitchen: The Next Generation will also have an emphasis on home cooking and presenting recipes, since ATK is in large part an educational show. "We want a great cook as well as an effective educator and communicator," the producers said. "We want someone who loves to teach and understands the realities of home cooking...In short, someone who can’t stop thinking about, and talking about, cooking."

The announcement of the new show comes as ATK continues to air its 22nd season on WTTW and public television (Saturdays at 2:00 and 2:30 pm on WTTW; WTTW Passport members can stream recent seasons). Season 23 is filming now, to air beginning in January of 2023, while a new, improved season of Cook's Country is coming in September of this year. The second season under editor in chief Toni Tipton-Martin, it will feature five more episodes than typical, as well as new looks and some additional on-the-ground reporting segments. (WTTW Passport members can also stream recent seasons of Cook's Country, while rebroadcasts run at various times on WTTW and WTTW Prime.)

All of this is as another public media cooking competition show approaches: The Great American Recipe spotlights the talents and signature recipes of home cooks from around the country. It premieres on WTTW and PBS stations Friday, June 24.
