Call the Midwife

Lucille continues to struggle with depression even as she helps a fiercely independent older man in Poplar. Freed some administrative duties by Sister Veronica's arrival, Sister Julienne relishes doing more work with patients, like a woman with breast cancer. 

Nancy aids a woman as she dies of a painful cancer at home and learns a secret of her life, while Lucille struggles with homesickness and depression that is worsened by an outbreak of racism in London.

While Fred and others organize a talent show to benefit those affected by the recent train crash in Poplar, the midwives and Doctor Turner attend to a family with a handicapped daughter and a woman who has been released from prison to find she has no connections.

Everyone does what they can to help Poplar through a terrible accident, while Sister Frances continues to try to help a young mother and Sister Hilda ushers an older mother through a new chapter of life both joyful and tragic.

Nancy is assigned more responsibility but it conflicts with her time with her daughter, while Sister Frances helps a very young mother. An older mother struggles with her pregnancy, while her husband has an issue that dramatically affects all of Poplar.

A group of squatters moves into one of Matthew's warehouses, and one of them is due to give birth soon. Sister Monica Joan worries that an omen of misfortune has been sent to Nonnatus House and visits a medium for help, but ends up helping her instead.

Cyril and Lucille try to reconcile their plans for the future while Trixie begins to envision a future with Matthew, before sad news interrupts things. Nurse Crane has her own surprising news that upends her life. 

Sister Hilda and Dr. Turner try to help a man with a lung condition who is haunted by his past, while Sister Julienne and Trixie try to intervene in the difficulties of a struggling new mother.

Nancy befriends a homeless man and struggles with how to help him while Violet tries to figure out how to best help all of her constituents, including the ones who cause complaints. A woman can't decide whether to pursue a career or be a full-time mother.

A frightening event leads to a big change in Miss Higgins' life, while a patient has her own upending diagnosis. A woman prepares to have her fourth child and is happily independent but fears a social worker might interfere with her life. 

It's Easter in Poplar, and spring brings a new beginning for Nancy as she begins work as a midwife. Changes uncover a horrible story from the past, and a couple hopes that their second baby will fare better than their first. 

It's a busy holiday season at Nonnatus House. Lucille is marrying Cyril the day after Christmas, Mother Mildred is coming to visit, and the midwives have a bunch of expectant mothers to care for as the holidays approach.

Matthew Aylward shows up in a surprising way in Poplar, and Trixie finds her view of him shifting. A complication interrupts a familial adoption, while Nancy tries to assert her own authority. 

Sister Frances tries to increase outreach to Poplar's South Asian community as a young mother struggles with a childhood trauma. Trixie takes a stand after witnessing a difficult situation, causing consternation in the community.

Sister Julienne fears that something is wrong with a mother's first child while Trixie helps Matthew more and more with his new baby. Shelagh and Ann tend to a young pregnant woman and her protective mother.
