Sesame Street

The seven-year-old Korean American Muppet Ji-Young, who will officially debut on Thanksgiving, is Sesame Street's first Asian American Muppet. 

CNN and Sesame Street are teaming up for a special town hall addressing the coronavirus. Hosted by CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Erica Hill alongside Big Bird, it will provide information and tools for families and answer questions about the pandemic.

As many parents work from home or on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis, and as kids try their hands at digital learning, there is a lot to process. The gang on Sesame Street has the tools to help.

Caroll Spinney, who performed Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street for almost 50 years, died at the age of 85 on Sunday. Revisit a 2003 interview with him on Chicago Tonight where he tells memorable stories, like the time he got in an argument with Mister Rogers. 

Next month, Sesame Street launches its 50th season with a grand celebration hosted by Joseph Gordon Levitt that features classic segments and songs, old cast members and puppeteers, and celebrities from Whoopi Goldberg to Itzhak Perlman.

Leaders, actors, musicians, and athletes have all made their way to Sesame Street to offer up some teachable moments, as well as some plain fun ones. Big names like James Earl Jones, Johnny Cash, and Michelle Obama have all joined the gang to lend their talent. 

There are more than 30 international co-productions of Sesame Street, all adapted to local cultures and issues, and many featuring their own unique characters. Take a look at some of the streets (or trees, or gardens) around the world where Muppets and humans teach children valuable lessons. 

June 1 is the birthday of not one but two beloved Sesame Street characters: Oscar the Grouch and the more recently introduced Rudy. Celebrate by taking a look at some of the best-known Muppets and the issues each is meant to address for children. 

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Sesame Street is coming to Chicago for a free family festival that includes live performances, fun kid-friendly activities, and much more!

In honor of Sesame Street's 50th anniversary, the United States Postal Service is issuing sixteen stamps with some of the most beloved characters from the show, including Big Bird, Julia, Bert and Ernie, Abby Cadabby, and more!

The collection includes iconic episodes that feature such moments as Ernie singing "Rubber Duckie, You're the One;" Kermit the Frog's "It's Not Easy Being Green;" Big Bird's reckoning with the death of a friend in "Farewell, Mr. Hooper;" and other classics.

It has been sweeping the clouds away for decades, and now Sesame Street is turning 50. To celebrate the anniversary, the beloved children's show has some big plans, from a prime-time special to a ten-city tour that includes a stop in Chicago.
