Host Ramsey Lewis
As a native Chicagoan, Ramsey Lewis is a jazz sensation and pianist who has diversified music in a way that no one else has. Mr. Lewis has won three Grammys, recorded seven golden records, and has founded the Ramsey Lewis Foundation that "offers a hand to youth through music" with scholarships, awards and opportunities for success. With a passion for education and the need to always learn more, Mr. Lewis is a natural partner with WTTW. As the television host of Legends of Jazz with Ramsey Lewis, which airs incredible jazz talent with interviews and performances, Mr. Lewis strives to not only showcase existing stars, but young and future potentials as well.
Music is very much apart of Lewis's life, but what he recognizes most is how he got there. He told the Chicago Tribune, "Because of this political and social change that [Lincoln] brought about, he really originated a culture that would not have happened without him. We would not know Western music as it is today pop and R&B and especially jazz if not for him."
His connection and respect for what Lincoln did during his presidency will shine through as he hosts Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Minutes for WTTW.
Ramsey Lewis currently performs all over the U.S. and around the world with Larry Gray on bass and Leon Joyce on drums. His most recent album "With One Voice" is under the Narada Jazz Label, and is available in stores.
