You are invited to a free screening of Making Waves: Battle for the Great Lakes, a 60-minute documentary about the effects of aquatic invasive species in the Great Lakes. This new film takes viewers below the surface of the world’s largest freshwater ecosystem, and into the middle of a complex war for survival. The documentary follows researchers on the front lines as they combat invasive species and work to restore native species, in an effort to prevent a biological takeover of the Great Lakes.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, narrator Bill Kurtis, and Shedd senior research biologist Dr. Philip Willink.  Also, attendees will have the opportunity to come face-to-face with some of the native and invasive species from the film in Shedd’s Great Lakes Gallery.

Before or after the screening, guests are also welcome to enjoy Jazzin’ at the Shedd, which runs from 5:00-10:00 pm and features live music, access to most aquarium exhibits, with food and drinks available for purchase. The Making Waves screening event is sponsored in part by Shedd Aquarium.

Please e-mail [email protected] to reserve your spot. Admission is free, but reservations are required.

Making Waves: Battle for the Great Lakes will air on WTTW11 in two parts, on Sunday, September 11 and 18 at 5:00 pm.  For more information about the film, visit makingwavesdocumentary.com.
