WTTW Channel 11 Chicago and Latino Public Broadcasting invite you to attend a FREE screening of the documentary film, Children of Giant, that will premiere on WTTW on April 17 at 9:00pm, kicking off season four of VOCES, a Latino arts and culture documentary showcase series.

At this free event, attendees will watch the full documentary film that unearths deeply wrought emotions in the small West Texas town of Marfa, before, during and after the month-long production of George Stevens' 1956 feature film, Giant. In 1955, Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, James Dean and a massive crew descended on the Texas town of Marfa to begin production on Giant. Now, 60 years later, 'Children of Giant' explores the film's still timely examination of racial prejudice.

Based on the controversial Edna Ferber novel of the same name, the film, Giant did not shy from strong social-issue themes experienced throughout post-WWII America. George Stevens, its producer and director, purposely gravitated to the drought-ridden, segregated community of Marfa for most all of the exterior scenes. Award-winning documentary filmmaker, Hector Galan weaves clips from the feature film with the voices of the Mexican American and Anglo townspeople, cast and crew who experienced this unique conjunction of art and life in the summer of 1955.

Executive producers are Carolyn Pfeiffer and Hector Galán and producers, Karen Bernstein and Evy Galán.
