WTTW, in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, present a FREE Indie Lens pop-up screening and discussion of the documentary film T-Rex.
17-year-old Claressa “T-Rex” Shields came from the streets of Flint to reach the Gold Medal podium in London in 2012, the first time women were allowed to box in the Olympics, but as we see in this coming-of-age story, life outside the ring may be an even tougher fight.
Immediately following the screening will be a discussion with panelists Jim Burda, Vice President of Marketing Partnerships from Chicago Sky; Glen Freedman, Master Boxing Trainer; Deirdre Joy Smith, WTTW Trustee and Founder and CEO of POWER: Opening Doors for Women; and Dorri McWhorter, Chief Executive Officer YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago (Moderator) with questions and comments from the audience.
Watch T-Rex: Her Fight for Gold on WTTW11 on Tuesday, August 2 at 10:00 pm and online at wttw.com/watch.
