Wabash Arts Corridor Murals

The alleys and parking lots of a stretch of Wabash Avenue in the South Loop have been transformed into a “living urban canvas.” The corridor of colorful murals, dubbed the Wabash Arts Corridor (WAC), stretches from roughly Van Buren Street to Roosevelt Road and from State Street to Michigan Avenue. Columbia College Chicago, a school that specializes in visual and performing arts, created the corridor in 2013. According to their website, “Artists and curators from five continents have left their mark on WAC with murals, performance, installations, actions, and large-scale projections.” Though the themes and styles of the work vary widely, many of the murals feature bold, bright designs that bring life and interest to something as commonplace as a concrete wall above a downtown parking lot.
