In Seattle, voters have approved a series of special tax levies that make it possible for the City’s Office for Education to target block grants for education improvements.

“The Family and Education Levy” program provides grants to specific schools and programs throughout the district each year.

Examples of the strategies it funds include student health services, extra learning time, and programs that focus on achievement gaps and improving graduation rates in specific locations.

The levy also provides funds for programs at Seattle Public Schools’ Innovation Schools, where struggling students can receive extra math and reading help, after-school and Saturday tutoring, homework assistance, and case management services.
