Chicago, IL - February 28, 2022

WTTW announced today that Nick Blumberg has been promoted to on-air/digital reporter for WTTW’s flagship news and public affairs program Chicago Tonight and WTTW News effective immediately. Blumberg will cover enterprise, investigative, and general assignment news and feature stories, and will report on the region’s diverse communities and neighborhoods across television and digital. Blumberg will report to Chicago Tonight’s Executive Producer and WTTW News Director Jay Smith, and support the organization’s purpose to enrich lives, engage communities, and inspire exploration.

“Nick is a skilled, dogged journalist focused on reporting essential, independent news and information about our city and region,” said Jay Smith, News Director for Chicago Tonight and WTTW News. “We are looking forward to his expanded presence on our air as he puts his experience and steadfast commitment to fact-based journalism to work.”

“Working at WTTW News has given me the opportunity to tell the kinds of stories about my hometown that you won’t find anywhere else,” Blumberg said. “I’m excited to build on that work, and I can’t wait to contribute further to the great reporting coming from our newsroom.”

Blumberg, a Chicago native and alumnus of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University and Northside College Prep, joined WTTW in 2014 as a producer and began occasionally appearing on air in 2016. His work has focused on transportation and infrastructure, politics and policy, and other key beats. Before WTTW, he served as reporter and producer at KJZZ, the NPR member station in Phoenix, where he also filed stories for and appeared as a guest on NPR’s Weekend Edition and Here and Now, Marketplace, and the BBC World Service.
