Sesame Street 50 Years and Counting

2019 marks 50 years since the first episode of Sesame Street aired, and there are a lot of plans to celebrate the beloved show in this anniversary year. The U.S. Postal Service is releasing sixteen stamps featuring some of your favorite characters from the show. Forty-nine years and almost 4,500 episodes are being added to the American Archive for Public Broadcasting. Everyone from celebrities to everyday fans will be invited to share cherished memories on social media with the hashtag #ThisIsMyStreet. And Sesame Street is hitting the road, traveling to ten cities over the summer, including Chicago.

Some of the iconic characters will be coming to Chicago along with a host of exciting family activities on Saturday, June 29, where they will be set up at the Museum of Science and Industry from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The festival is free, and will include live performances, a giant maze, a treasure dig, a cookies-and-milk station, sweepstakes, photo opportunities, and lots more exciting Sesame Street fun!
