There's a huge amount of worthwhile TV out there nowadays, so it can be hard to choose what to watch. But who better to recommend shows than the person who programs them? Lisa Tipton, WTTW’s Head of Programming and Pledge, constructs the WTTW schedule by searching through offerings from many different sources which include the national PBS network, the BBC, and independent filmmakers to put together a varied and engaging broadcast schedule. Each month, she’ll recommend a few shows that she thinks you should watch.

Find all the ways to watch WTTW here. Many of the below shows are available to stream or will be once they premiere.

Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives

Monday, June 3 at 8:00 pm

Aretha Franklin called him "the greatest record man of all time," and the list of artists he signed, from Sly and the Family Stone to Bruce Springsteen, certainly offers good evidence. His life, examined in this documentary, therefore provides a great look at music from the '60s onward.

The film is available to stream by WTTW Passport members now.

Frontline: Crisis on Campus

Tuesday, June 11 at 9:00 pm

Frontline dives into the protests that divided college campuses over Israel and the war in Gaza, offering a wide-frame view of a topic often flattened and used for generating outrage.

Returning Dramas

Sunday, June 16

It's the season of mystery, as Professor T returns with a third season at 7:00 pm, Grantchester with a ninth (and a new vicar!) at 8:00 pm, and D.I. Ray with a second at 9:00 pm. You can catch up with Grantchester in a marathon showing of the previous season beginning at 1:00 pm, or check out our recaps for all three shows.

WTTW Passport members will be able to stream full seasons upon their premiere instead of waiting for each Sunday.

The Great American Recipe

Mondays beginning June 17 at 8:00 pm

More home cooks from across the country come together to share their family recipes and traditions in a third season of The Great American Recipe, now with new judges Francis Lam and Tim Hollingsworth.

Shows on the climate

Wednesdays beginning June 19

Wednesdays bring examinations of our changing world, with Dynamic Planet at 7:00 pm looking at the front lines of climate change in a series of four episodes and Hope in the Water at 8:00 pm exploring sustainable fishing and other aquatic ways of feeding our world, with Baratunde Thurston, Martha Stewart, and Shailene Woodley hosting, in a series produced by Andrew Zimmern's production company.

Miriam & Alan: Lost in Scotland

Thursdays beginning June 20 at 7:00 pm

What could be more fun than traveling across craggy Scotland with natives Miriam Margolyes and Alan Cumming in a mobile home? We can't think of anything. They also make stops in America in this second season.

Both seasons are available to stream by WTTW Passport members now.

To Be Takei

Thursday, June 20 at 8:00 pm

"A star's trek for life, liberty, and love" is the subtitle of this documentary about the Star Trek star, advocate for marriage equality, and highly visible Asian American actor.

It's available to stream by WTTW Passport members now.
