Arts Across Illinois

Friday, November 14 at 8:30 pm and Sunday, November 16 at 5:30 pm

WTTW 11 Host Phil Ponce takes viewers on a journey of musical discovery through Illinois in a new edition of Arts Across Illinois.

From Carbondale to Chicago, get tuned in to the work of some of the state's best musicians. Listen to the cutting edge sounds of Chicago's Fulcrum Point New Music Project and classic Copland from the St. Charles Singers.

Performances include:

COLORFUL CLASSICAL The Chicago Sinfonietta's musical motto is "excellence through diversity." Considered the country's most diverse orchestra it honors the work of composers of color and women, while still paying tribute to the time honored classics, in its effort to make sure classical music is available to everyone.

CLASSIC COPLAND Critics are singing the praises of the St. Charles Singers new CD of beloved American music from composer Aaron Copland.

SOUND SCIENTIST Trumpeter, composer and conductor Stephen Burns is breaking down the barriers between different musical genres as artistic director of Chicago's Fulcrum Point New Music Project. His sonic experiments get played out in performances exploring the musical boundaries of classical, jazz and world music.

SOUND ADVICE Trying to make a living as a musician can be risky business. Critically acclaimed composer Frank Stemper helps young people find their musical voice while finding out if the music business is for them, as director of graduate music studies at Southern Illinois University.

A PLACE IN THE CHOIR Not your average choir boys, members of the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus are raising their voices in song, having a lot of fun, and getting great reviews at the same time.

Music Matters on Arts Across Illinois is made possible by the Illinois Arts Council.
